How can graphic design, based on a visual composition, reach blind people? How is the point of intercommunication between this group and sighted people found?  <\/strong><\/h3>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The exhibition \u201cTOCA TOCAR. Drawings from blindness\u201d that is being presented is born from these reflections and the desire to involve blind people, as well as to find answers.<\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">With this idea, a drawing workshop adapted for blind people was carried out. The activity, co-organized by ONCE and the Girona Art Museum, took place on January 17, 2019 at the ONCE headquarters in Girona and was attended by 7 people. The challenge posed to the participants was to draw different objects from everyday life in which design is present.  <\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The process and the result of the experience is what the exhibition aims to highlight. The drawings, which are also included in the exhibition catalogue, are a testament to the expressive capacity of their authors, but also to an enriching and socialising experience that is now being shared. <\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The exhibition project is the result of the final project of the undergraduate studies in Graphic Design by Gen\u00eds Ibanco (ESDAP, Escola Superior de Disseny i d&#8217;Arts Pl\u00e0stiques de Catalunya, Olot). This work has recently been recognized with a second place in the Gaudeamus Awards of the Official College of Graphic Design and has been selected for the Laus Awards of the ADG-FAD. <\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">A production of the Girona Art Museum, with the collaboration of ONCE<\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">______________________<\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><em>This project arises from a reflection and a personal challenge. The field of graphic design is usually based on concepts related to the visual field and my initial question that led me to deal with a topic for blind people was; How could I design for people who cannot see? As a result of this question, this approach to the project arises that ends with the ideation of an exhibition for people with blindness. The main axis of this exhibition is drawing as an expression for this group.   <\/em><\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Gen\u00eds Ibanco, curator<\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">__________________________________<\/p>\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>A drawing exhibition by and for the blind<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The design and museographic presentation of the exhibition has also become a mutual learning exercise, between the course participants, the designers and the Art Museum itself, to conceptualize an exhibition that is completely accessible to the blind, in which they are the protagonists and which, in addition, places visitors to the exhibition in a similar situation, who can try drawing with their eyes closed, or tour the exhibition blind.<\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Thus, the posters have been made in Braille. Each of them has a QR code that allows you to listen to an audio with explanations either from the curator of the exhibition or from one of the participants. The exhibition space has been adapted with routing guides that allow blind visitors to orientate their circulation through the room at all times.  <\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">A unique exhibition in which the aim has been to achieve maximum accessibility for the blind, but also to raise awareness among visitors and reflect on how we, from museums, should create inclusive and accessible exhibitions.<\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The wall texts are intentionally white, blending in with the color of the wall itself. This is an exercise that aims to test sighted visitors so that they can empathize with the different degrees of vision problems of the blind. <\/p>\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Catalogue<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">On January 17, 2019, the Museu d&#8217;Art de Girona and ONCE Girona organized a drawing workshop for blind people. The Museu d&#8217;Art is now presenting an exhibition, curated by Gen\u00eds Ibanco, from June 15 to September 29, 2019, showing the results of the workshop. The catalogue includes a selection of the resulting drawings.
