The works respond to the need to guarantee the good state of conservation of the Episcopal Palace, a building with more than a thousand years of history and home to the Girona Art Museum since 1976.   <\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The works are part of the Temps de G\u00f2tic program, promoted by the Department of Culture and the &#8216;la Caixa&#8217; Foundation, with the aim of preserving and enhancing Catalan Gothic heritage. The program, funded by the &#8216;la Caixa&#8217; Foundation, has a budget of 6.34 million euros and allows for work to be carried out in eleven monuments and artistic assets across the country, including the Palau Episcopal de Girona.   <\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In the Episcopal Palace, the current home of the Art Museum, the works focus on the rehabilitation of a large part of the roofs and the construction of a new access from the outside to improve accessibility to the site. The works, which began last October, will last approximately 7 months. Currently, the work has been completed on one of the roofs and work is underway on the second.    <\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">This January 2026, work began on the roof of the Throne Room, the most noble and prominent room in the Palace, as well as the adjacent rooms. The work, although it will not leave the spaces open to the air, could entail a certain risk for some elements and works on display. To avoid possible damage and ensure the protection of the works against any unforeseen circumstances, the two rooms that could be most affected will be closed to the public, some exhibited pieces will be removed and others will be protected with specific packaging. Photo: Girona Art Museum   <\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n<div style=\"height:40px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Temporary protection of the Museum&#8217;s Gothic altarpieces<\/strong> <\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">A total of seven 15th-century altarpieces, of considerable size, will be temporarily covered with protective structures specifically designed to guarantee their conservation and protection during the rehabilitation works on the roof of the Throne Room. The works will last three or four months and will involve lifting the roof in sections and consolidating, restoring or replacing the wooden trusses, original in many cases, and the structure of the roof.   <\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Although the roof works are not expected to affect the interior, in order to avoid any risk or incident, it has been decided to keep the altarpieces in place, protect them and thus avoid dismantling and movement. This has been the recommendation of the conservators-restorers of the Center for the Restoration of Moveable Property of Catalonia, in agreement with the technicians of the Girona Art Museum, who prefer to maintain the climatic conditions and minimize the risk with wooden constructions that will safeguard the works from possible impacts or leaks.   <\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Among the protected works are the two large altarpieces: the <em>altarpiece of Sant Miquel de Cru\u00eflles<\/em> , by Llu\u00eds Borrass\u00e0 (1416) and the <em>altarpiece of Sant Pere de P\u00fabol<\/em> , by Bernat Martorell (1437), both almost 5 meters high. A specific structure has also been created for the sculpture <em>Home de Sant Dom\u00e8nec<\/em> (1598-1611), located in room 7. Photo: Girona Art Museum   <\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n<div style=\"height:40px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Virtual navigation and projections: a new way to discover the altarpieces<\/strong> <\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Although the altarpieces will not be visible directly during this period of work, the Museum will remain open. From the beginning of February, it will offer a new way of discovering these exceptional works through digital navigation. In December, the gigaphotos of all the altarpieces in the Throne Room were completed, which can now be viewed through two touch screens installed in the Throne Room itself.    <\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The screens will show high-resolution photographs that will allow you to explore in detail aspects that usually go unnoticed by the naked eye. In addition, a <em>mapping<\/em> projection will project details of some of the altarpieces onto the protective structures.
