Georgina Gavardina and the stories of the Museum

Grup de nens al museu

Presentation

Georgina Gavardina is one of the best story researchers in the world. She travels around the world looking for the funniest and most exciting stories. She has been visiting the Museum's works for a long time and searching through the dusty, thick books in the archives for the best stories, but lately she has been looking for new ones. Live this adventure with Georgina and let yourself be guided by tales of knights, animals turned to stone and stories about hidden kisses. But above all: get ready to build your own story! Stimulate observation skills through the analysis of works of art.

Objectives

  • Stimulate observation skills through the analysis of works of art.
  • Encourage imagination and creativity as well as autonomy and social relationships with the group.
  • Approach the concept of the museum.
  • Encourage participation in the creation of their own stories with their internal structure.

Description

“Georgina Gavardina and the Museum’s Stories” is an activity designed for middle-school students (3rd and 4th years of primary school). This activity is divided into two distinct parts. During the first half of the activity, Georgina Gavardina, a professional story researcher, will tell students three fascinating stories that feature characters from the Museum’s works: the famous lioness of Girona, the majestic knight Jofre Gilabert de Cruïlles and the 19th-century painting called Homestead .

Through storytelling techniques, the educator will use these stories to make students notice that museums are living places where many things happen. This first part of the activity will have graphic support material (illustrations of the stories) and all the necessary materials to encourage student participation. In the second part of the activity, students will form teams and will have to make up their own story. Using magnetized figures of characters from the Museum (a farmer, a queen, a dragon and a mermaid) they will have to place the characters in a space and time and create a story with the traditional structure of approach, climax and denouement.

Finally, they will present the stories in groups and explain the result of this workshop to the rest of their classmates in a fun and entertaining way. “Georgina Gavardina and the Stories of the Museum” provides the student with a hands-on experience and enhances their imagination while conveying the idea that a museum is a place full of stories.
