Women were there too: SDG gender equality

Retaule de Santa Cristina

Presentation

What qualities was the image of women associated with in the Middle Ages? What was their canon of feminine beauty? What was the importance of care and non-mixed spaces in modern times? Were there women painters in the 19th century? What was their education like? The activity aims to answer these questions and encourage reflection from a gender perspective, based on the Museum's works of art so that students can develop a participatory workshop with social value.

Objectives

  • Taking the world of art as a model of reference, inspiration and creativity to generate processes of change and social innovation.
  • Work on specific content from history and art history (iconography, artists, movements, stages, etc.).
  • Adopt a discourse with a gender perspective on works of art and artistic and historical periods.
  • Provide students with basic tools for developing a communication and awareness campaign.

Description

One of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) of the United Nations’ 2030 Agenda is to achieve gender equality and empower all women and girls, and places gender-sensitive studies and actions necessary to help eradicate male chauvinism from our society at the center of action.

“Women were there too: SDG gender equality” is an educational proposal that allows young people the possibility of developing actions of high social and territorial value.

By adapting various methodologies such as design thinking or learning by doing , the activity seeks to generate a space for critical reflection with a gender perspective and apply it to the history of art and the observation of works in a museum.

Next, the students will be divided into small groups and will participate in a dynamic debate in which they will put themselves in the shoes of the curators of an exhibition on a topic related to what they have previously worked on in the guided visit.
