Just as the viewer, when looking at a work of art, projects their emotional experience onto it, the artist, in a way, also projects their own sensory experience when creating it. What passes through the senses is transformed into feelings, emotions that the artist needs to express in a tangible way, turning them into matter—the best way to share them. And this materiality can evoke the same feelings, or perhaps different ones, in the viewer. This is the vastness of art in all its expressions.
The exhibition “Feeling/Expressing”, curated by Fina Duran and Mercè Pomer, explores this relationship between emotions and their artistic representation through works by Ricard Aymar, Francesca Riu, Tura Sanglas and Jordi Tolosa. Like emotions themselves, this exhibition will flow through different spaces across the territory: the Museu d’Art de Girona, Can Manyé in Alella, the Palau Foundation in Caldes d’Estrac, and the Cerdanyola Art Museum. It presents a series of pieces that express different states of mind arising from our human condition and all that it entails: irony, sadness, criticism, joy and pleasure, fear, guilt, grief…
The exhibition includes works created specifically for it, inspired by pieces from the collections of each participating institution. All of them are accompanied by texts from the curators and by comments from the psychologist Bruno Monse, which help us navigate these intimate emotions that find in artistic expression the way to become a voice, a shared substance.
One must look, behind each artwork in this exhibition, for the authenticity of expression. Because… who can express fear, joy, love, pain, anger if they have not first experienced it deeply? This is the dialogue we propose. We invite you to look within yourself for the answer.
