The Girona Art Museum is hosting, until April 17, 2017 , the temporary exhibition “Miquel Blay. The path to success. (1866-1936)”, which culminates the program of events organized during this year to commemorate the 150th anniversary of the sculptor’s birth . The exhibition delves into the artist’s training period , from 1888 , when Blay received a scholarship from the Girona Provincial Council to study in Paris and Rome, to 1906 , when he settled in Madrid , after having amply demonstrated the quality of his production .

“Miquel Blay. The path to success” includes a total of 43 works by the author , 31 of which are sculptures, some of which are large-format . In addition to sketches, proofs, drawings and documents, outstanding works from the Prado Museum , the Museum of the Royal Academy of Fine Arts of San Fernando or the Sorolla Museum in Madrid, among others from private and public collections , are also exhibited.

“Miquel Blay. The path to success (1866-1936)” is curated by Mercè Doñate and has been conceived in conjunction with the exhibition inaugurated on September 3 at the Museu de la Garrotxa (Olot), which with the title “Miquel Blay. Sentiment Olotí” , presents the artist’s constant link with the Garrotxa capital throughout his career.

With the aim of giving unity to the two exhibitions, a single catalogue has been published that collects the texts and reflections of experts on these early years of the sculptor and his relationship with both cities . The publication reviews the biography and work of the sculptor and includes studies on the various facets of the artist by specialists.
