Presentation

Between 1905 and 1906, Prudenci Bertrana made thirty-six portraits in drawings of Catalan writers, commissioned by the Girona-based publishing house Dalmau Carles i Cia. The portraits were to illustrate the reading book Aplech. Models in verse and prose of our Renaissance for use in the schools of Catalonia, Mallorca, Valencia, Roussillon . The exhibition served to delve deeper into Bertrana’s figure as a draftsman and portraitist, but also to learn about a work, the Aplech , in which educators, poets, writers and artists came together. One of the best examples of school books that, within the framework of modernism, sought to achieve the recovery, dissemination and consolidation of a fully Catalan culture in which literature and art were fundamental.

This exhibition was also presented in a traveling format.
