A traveling exhibition that presents relief reproductions of some of the most representative paintings from the collections of the Museo Nacional del Prado, such as the Mona Lisa from Leonardo da Vinci’s workshop, The Forge of Vulcan by Velázquez or The Knight with His Hand on His Chest by El Greco and for Girona, the reproduction of the painting Girona by Santiago Rusiñol from the md’A is added. The images are designed to be explored with the hands.
Accessibility to museum institutions is a challenge to explore even today in the 21st century. The aesthetic experience of a work of art can be approached from different perspectives, as demonstrated by new projects that break the barriers of what is conventional and bring art closer to everyone in a universal way.
The exhibition Avui toca el Prado , which now arrives in Girona led by the Madrid art gallery, proposes a different way of perceiving art through touch; a relationship often only established through sculptures or objects and very little explored through the textures of a painting.
With a total of seven 3D reproductions of a selection of the most significant works from the Museo Nacional del Prado, people with visual impairments are offered the opportunity to participate in this aesthetic experience or to experience how a work is “seen without seeing” through opaque glasses. The project is part of the corporate social responsibility work of museums and cultural institutions and has obtained great recognition from national and international critics.
Noli me tangere, by Correggio, La Gioconda or Mona Lisa, from the Workshop of Leonardo da Vinci, The Forge of Vulcan, by Diego Velázquez, The Knight with the Hand in His Chest, by El Greco, Still Life with Artichokes, Flowers and Glass Containers, by Juan van de Hamen or The Parasol, by Francisco de Goya, are the works that we can touch, feel and discover at md’A. In addition, on the occasion of the opening of the exhibition in Girona, the work of Santiago Rusiñol, Girona (IV), 1915, preserved in the collection of md’A and which is currently exhibited in the monographic exhibition dedicated to the artist, has been reproduced for the occasion. The reproductions have been developed with the collaboration of professionals with disabilities
