After months of being covered by restoration work on the museum’s roof, the altarpieces of the Throne Room are once again visible. To celebrate, art historian Rafael Cornudella offers an in-depth look at one of the collection’s most outstanding pieces: the altarpiece of Sant Pere de Púbol by Bernat Martorell , from 1437.

On the central panel, Martorell portrayed the donor himself, Bernat de Corbera, kneeling with his wife Margarida and his son Francesc. Around him, scenes from the life and martyrdom of Saint Peter unfold, flanked by figures of saints, in this piece that is almost 5 meters high.

But in the conference we will not only talk about what is seen, but we will explore what remains hidden, what is known and what is not yet fully understood about this work: an invitation to look at the altarpiece from another side.
