The Girona Art Museum is carrying out conservation-restoration work on the donated pieces and fragments of the old main altarpiece of Sant Feliu de Girona, a task that has become a unique opportunity to bring the process of heritage preservation closer to the public.
On May 22, the md’A received the donation of several fragments of the altarpiece, including one of the pinnacles. This donation is in addition to a previous one , both made by the Friends of the Art Museum . Once received, the pieces were examined in order to establish their state of conservation and make a proposal for intervention, as well as study the possible location within the structure of the altarpiece.
Currently, the Museum’s conservation-restoration team is working on these fragments and pieces, and wanted to invite the Friends of the md’A to visit the restoration workshop, so that they could observe first-hand the heritage conservation process.
It should be remembered that the Museu d’Art de Girona exhibits and preserves a good part of the altarpiece , while another part is in the Basilica of Sant Feliu. This new acquisition and the conservation work underline the Museum’s crucial role in the preservation and dissemination of Girona’s cultural heritage.
Once again, the Museum would like to thank the Friends of the md’A for their support.
