Collection

Periods

The Museum presents a collection of early medieval art that reflects the artistic evolution of Catalonia during the comital period.

Girona played a key role in the arrival and dissemination of art from northern France, which began to spread in the early 13th century.

Sixteenth-century painting in Girona is largely represented by foreign artists who incorporated Renaissance elements into the Flemish Gothic tradition.

The collections from the 17th and 18th centuries include painting, sculpture and religious objects from across the Girona region and beyond.

The 19th century at the Museum of Art is presented through European artistic movements, first influenced by the academies and later by the more groundbreaking trends of the end of the century.

The final spaces of the Museum show how Modernisme and Noucentisme transformed Catalan art at the beginning of the 20th century.
