Gothic

Girona played a key role in the arrival and dissemination of art from northern France, which began to spread in the early 13th century.

The Museum preserves works from the workshop of Master Bartomeu of Girona, the first sculptor known by name and the introducer of Gothic art in Catalonia. From around 1320, alabaster from Beuda (La Garrotxa) became the preferred material for devotional sculpture. In the Museum, visitors can see works attributed to royal masters such as Jaume Cascalls, as well as a relief by Pere Oller.

The Throne Hall brings together one of the most outstanding groups of 15th-century altarpieces in Catalonia, with works by Lluís Borrassà, Bernat Martorell and Jaume Cabrera, among others.

The collection is completed by tombs, reliefs and capitals from workshops in Girona.
