md'A in the Territory

The Museu d’Art de Girona is a regional museum.
Despite its location in the city of Girona, its founding collections come from the former Provincial Museum and the Diocesan Museum—territory-based collections that cover almost the entire province of Girona.
The Museum in the Territory project aims to make these connections visible. On the one hand, it seeks to ensure that museum visitors learn about the original location of the works; above all, it aims for the communities from which they originate to know that these works are preserved, studied, and shared at the Museum, and that they form part of their heritage. Ultimately, the goal is to foster a symbolic return of the works to their place of origin.

1st edition. La Pera and Pedrinyà

The project began in 2024 with the mural painting of Pedrinyà, one of the few surviving mural paintings in the province of Girona.

On this occasion, residents of La Pera and Pedrinyà were involved through their school, associations, and local organizations.

The result? Discover it in this video.

2nd edition. Cruïlles, Sant Sadurní de l'Heura and Monells

The project focuses on the Romanesque jewel of the Monastery of Sant Miquel, from which the Museum preserves notable works of art, such as the Beam of Cruïlles or the altarpiece of Saint Michael.

This year, we have adapted the community-based working model to the reality of the municipality and to the interests of schools, organizations, and associations.
