The Museum of Art of Girona presents Art-Action! 4th Artistic Experimentation Day, an annual event to explore artistic materials, techniques and procedures in an active and experiential way.
Art-Action! invites participants to express their creativity by exploring a central material. Throughout the day, visitors can experiment freely, guided by invited artisans and artists, in a museum setting that encourages discovery. The aim is not to master any technique, but to open pathways for expression and personal exploration.
Following the success of last year’s edition dedicated to paper, which welcomed more than one thousand visitors, this year the focus is on wood, a material that connects directly with our identity and memory, both individual and collective.
2025 Edition: WOOD. Identity and memory
Wood has been a silent witness to our history. In our homes, in the tools we use, in sacred spaces and even in childhood toys, this material has crossed generations, carrying the memory of those who worked it and the stories that shape our identity.
Carving, engraving or assembling wood is not only a creative act: it is a dialogue with the past and a way of leaving a mark on the present.
Throughout the day, we will explore the many expressive possibilities of wood with our own hands. We will carve, assemble and print, guided by artists and artisans who will introduce us to techniques such as carving, marquetry, arte povera, woodcut printing and even the traditional ball de bastons.
Each practice will allow us to connect with a part of ourselves, with our memories and with the material tradition that precedes us. We will create unique pieces and recognise, in each fragment of wood, the symbolic strength of a simple yet meaningful material.
In wood we rediscover memory and identity: the roots that bind us to our origins and shape who we are.
