- Due to the good reception of the exhibition, the Girona Art Museum is extending the exhibition period dedicated to the Catalan artist until June 28th.
- The exhibition, which was due to close on April 6, brings together almost all of Francisca Rius’s preserved work, most of which comes from family collections and is practically unpublished.
The Girona Art Museum has decided to extend the exhibition “Francisca Rius i Sanuy (1891-1967). Design and life ” until June 28, given the good response from the public. Since its inauguration on November 29, 2025, the exhibition has received almost 3,500 visitors. The exhibition, which was scheduled to run until April 6, can continue to be visited at the Art Museum during the spring months.
Curated by her grandson, Domènec Ribot, the exhibition is the first monographic show dedicated to this Barcelona artist who was condemned to oblivion by the social and political context of the 20th century. Trained at the Escola La Llotja between 1907 and 1914, Francisca Rius stood out in the art of stylization and ornamental design, in the need to offer artistic works of simplified forms to be applied to the demands of different industries, with a language located between modernism and art deco.
The exhibition brings together illustrations, drawings, graphic designs and embroidery patterns carefully preserved for decades by the family and practically never shown to the public, which allow us to rediscover an exceptional creator. Also on display are original fragments of her Intimate Diary (1938-1939), a reference document on daily life in the rear of Barcelona during the Civil War, published in 2009 by Publicacions de l’Abadia de Montserrat.
The extension is part of the Girona Art Museum’s commitment to recovering and making forgotten women artists visible, and offers the opportunity to all those who have not yet been able to visit the exhibition to discover the life and work of a creator who deserves to be known and recognized.
