“The Cathedral Glassmaker” is an activity offered to almost all primary school years (from 3rd to 6th grade) and aims to help students discover the process of making a stained glass window and its usefulness, and thus learn about an important trade in the context of the Middle Ages. The activity begins with a visit to the Museum rooms, where notions about the history and social organization of the Middle Ages are introduced, as well as a brief explanation of the characteristics of buildings before the innovations of the Gothic style. Subsequently, the properties of glass and the process of making stained glass windows are explained, with the help of an explanatory video. Through observation and the active participation of the students, the most relevant pieces from this part of the Museum’s collection will be discussed: the stained glass panels. Afterwards, they will enter the Girona Cathedral, where they will be able to see the stained glass windows in their original place and the magical colored light they cause in the space. In the second part of the activity, the students will have to create their own stained glass window and become master stained glass artists for a day and manage to make an original and personalized design of a stained glass window in the cathedral.
