- The exhibition brings together the artist’s most unusual and enigmatic works
- The exhibition is part of the cycle “(Nothing) is true”, promoted by Girona City Council and the Fita Foundation, and which is displayed in eight cultural facilities in Girona.
The Girona Art Museum will inaugurate the exhibition “On February 14th, at 12 noonCalamicleos. Misery and Glory ”, an exhibition, curated by Kim Bover Busquets and Carme Sais Gruart, and which is part of the series of exhibition proposals and activities organized to pay tribute to the master and artist from Girona, Vicenç Huedo
At the Museu d’Art de Girona you can see the drawings and paintings that the artist himself calls “ calamicleos”. The name comes from the artist’s memory of some poems written by the 15th-century Cordoban poet Juan de Mena dedicated to the theme of “misery and glory”. They are his most cryptic, unusual and enigmatic works. They consist of a kind of small drawings, which seem like simple scribbles, made automatically. In fact, the first lines that the artist, apparently absent-mindedly, draws on any paper that does not have a fixed horizon can be calamicleos , that is, traces that seem capricious. In his calamicleos , the scribbles are arranged like signs of an indecipherable iconographic alphabet.
These pieces reveal the lesser-known facet of the artist, far removed from the realism for which he is best known. Like the four works that also accompany them, from the collection of the Prudenci Bertrana Foundation, which link to the most surreal and enigmatic aspects of the artist’s career, offering a lesser-known vision of his creative universe.
The exhibition at the Girona Art Museum, which can be visited until May 24, is part of the cycle “(Res) és veritat”, an initiative that pays tribute to the master and artist Vicenç Huedo and which is being held simultaneously in eight cultural spaces in Girona.
Activities program
The Art Museum has scheduled two complementary activities around the exhibition:
Family visit and workshop with the artist: Saturday, March 14, at 11:30 a.m. A unique opportunity to learn firsthand about Vicenç Huedo’s creative process and participate in an activity designed for families, where we will create our own calamicleos , which will be exhibited for a few days in the Museum itself.
Art and literature by Glòria Granell, Rosa Font and Vicenç Huedo: Saturday, April 11, at 11:30 a.m. A meeting that will explore the links between artistic and literary creation.
