Visitor Information Desk

The Visitor Information Desk is located on the 1st floor, in the Museum lobby.

The counter is designed for accessibility, with a section at a maximum height of 85 cm and a clear knee space.

Staff wear red jackets or black shirts and carry personal identification for easy recognition.

Pets are not allowed, except for assistance dogs, which have full access.

We offer:

  • 2 parking spaces at the main entrance (Pujada de la Catedral, 12).
  • 4 parking spaces in Plaça Sant Domènec, 130 meters from the main entrance.

Access to the Museum

The main entrance to the Museum has a staircase leading to the interior courtyard. From there, the lobby (1s floor) is accessible via an external elevator.

We are working to enable direct step-free access from the street.

The alternative access via Pere Rocabertí Street has been removed because it does not meet current accessibility standards.

Wheelchair loan

A wheelchair is available for temporary use. Request it at the Visitor Information Desk.

Accessible Bathrooms

There is an accessible bathroom on the 1st floor, next to the rest area. A key can be requested at the Visitor Information Desk.

Permanent exhibition

The Art Museum occupies 5 floors and has 18 rooms.

  • 72% of the exhibition space is wheelchair accessible.
  • Rooms that are not accessible, such as the Prison and monographic rooms, have architectural barriers that are difficult to modify due to their historic structure.

Temporary exhibition

Area 3 (2nd, 3rd, and 4th floors)

  • 2nd Floor: Room 3.1 is accessible by elevator from the 1st-floor lobby. Rooms 3.2 and 3.3 are reached via 3 and 4-step stairs.
  • Floor 3: accessible by two flights of stairs of 8 steps each.
  • 4th Floor: accessible via two flights of 8 steps each.

Area 2 (5th Floor)

  • Accessible by elevator or stairs from the 1st floor.

Doors and Passageways

All doors and passages have a minimum width of 80 cm.

Turning spaces allow a diameter of 150 cm for mobility and accessibility.

Tactile route and braille information

A tactile itinerary includes objects accessible by touch, featuring a selection of visual arts objects from different periods, styles, and materials. These objects have Braille labels and are located in rooms 5, 9, 12, and the monographic room m2.

Room 5 features a tactile experimentation table with Romanesque stone sculptures, Braille texts, and large-print labels.

All elevators have control panels with Braille, raised numbers, and visually clear labels.

Lighting

Spaces are well lit with visual contrast between walls and floors.

  • In Rooms 3b and parts of Room 5, lighting is softer to preserve exhibited books. Informational signs are present.
  • The Prison (4th floor) also has reduced lighting.

Easy-to-read itinerary

We offer an easy-to-read summary of the Museum’s audio guide.

In each room, you will find stickers with a number and this pictogram to identify the points in the guide.

For questions, ask the Visitor Information staff at the entrance.

Floor plan

At the public service point, you will find a color-coded map and an axonometric view to facilitate understanding of the space. The color codes correspond to the room number signage.

Includes a recommended route highlighting the most important works.

Resources for people with hearing impairments

The Museum has a magnetic loop system installed at the information desk. In addition, the exhibition tour is accompanied by a sign guide, with Catalan sign language and subtitles.

The Museum is near the Cathedral, so bell sounds may be heard in outdoor areas.

The rest area (1st floor) has a coffee machine producing constant background noise.

Coffee aroma is present in the rest area (1st floor).

Strong-smelling products may be used during restoration; ask staff for information.

Temperature and humidity

Sudden changes in temperature and humidity may occur between rooms.

In summer, some rooms may feel warmer; hand fans are available from the staff.
