The Giravolt program. Experience Cultural Heritage in 3D
Giravolt is a program promoted by the Department of Culture, a pioneer in Catalonia, which aims to promote knowledge and use of the latest 3D scanning technologies for objects and buildings among entities that manage Catalan heritage, and offer citizens a new way of looking at and accessing cultural heritage. It is a new tool that will improve heritage management from conservation to dissemination and final reuse.
It was put into operation at the end of 2020 and, among its actions, the 3D scanning of hundreds of models of movable and immovable Catalan cultural heritage from different institutions throughout the country (with photogrammetry and laser scanning techniques, respectively) and their publication on the Internet with open licenses, the training of the entire sector in 3D technologies and the promotion of educational, scientific and artistic use stand out.
In Catalonia, more than 100 3D models have already been created, around seventy of which are made available to everyone, under an open license, on the Giravolt program’s profile on the Sketchfab online 3D content platform: sketchfab.com/giravolt .
The Giravolt project. Experience 3D heritage has been developed thanks to the collaboration of museums, heritage entities and other professionals, companies and institutions that have collaborated. The ultimate goal is that by 2023, the heritage sector will know these technologies and many entities will apply them autonomously.
