On 27 June, the Musée d’Art Hyacinthe Rigaud in Perpignan opened the exhibition “Joan Miró. Mallorca, the Workshop of Dreams ”, organised as part of the twinning between the cities of Perpignan and Palma de Mallorca, officially established in 2024.
The exhibition brings together almost one hundred works—including paintings, sculptures, ceramics, drawings, prints and lithographs—among them Marina (Berck) (1873) by Modest Urgell, which is part of the permanent collection display at the Museu d’Art de Girona.
Joan Miró studied at the Escola de la Llotja, where he was strongly influenced by the work of Modest Urgell. The Catalan painter’s landscapes, populated with solitary trees, silent graves and deserted beaches, unfold beneath a horizon line that opens onto an infinite space.
The exhibition can be visited until 31 December 2026.
