The Girona Art Museum inaugurates an exhibition with works by students of the L a madriguera workshop , directed by the artist Paula Bonet, which pays tribute to the work and figure of Roser Bru

The Girona Art Museum inaugurates on Saturday, February 22, 2025, at 12:00 p.m., the exhibition “One alone is nothing. A plastic tribute to Roser Bru”, a collective exhibition of nine students from Paula Bonet’s La madriguera workshop , who has also been in charge of the curatorship.
A collective tribute to Roser Bru through 36 works
The exhibition is the result of a process of research, observation and reinterpretation of Bru’s work carried out by 9 artists, many of them from Chile, during an intensive stay at La madriguera, the painting, engraving and writing workshop that Valencian artist Paula Bonet opened in Barcelona in 2018. A space that has horizontal and participatory work as its norm and is aimed exclusively at women.
Bonet met Roser Bru precisely during a training stay at Taller 99 in Santiago de Chile, in 2002. The two struck up a close friendship, despite the generational differences. For Paula Bonet it was also a revealing time, and she states that it was precisely during this stay that she knew that art would be the only constant in her life. There too she found a place where many women made engravings, created guided by their instinct, and at the same time, also took care of others.
The spirit of Taller 99, the engraving workshop founded by Nemesio Antúnez in 1956 in Santiago de Chile and in which Roser Bru participated throughout her life, was the source of inspiration for the foundation of the Barcelona workshop La madriguera, where, following the guidelines and mastery of the Chilean workshop, Bonet has built a learning workshop and, at the same time, a space of creative freedom, meeting and refuge for women driven by creativity.
With this logic and with the work of Roser Bru, now exhibited in Girona, as a reference, Bonet has promoted the individual and at the same time collaborative work of 9 artists from all over the world, all called to learn by working.
María José Bannen (visual artist, Chile), Josefina Carvalho (designer, Chile), Vanina Fernández (visual artist, Argentina), Diana Gaviño (painter, Spain), Noel de León (visual artist, Uruguay), Laura Medina (drawer, Colombia), Minú Rao (artist, Cuba and India), Anaís Vaillant (visual artist) and Milena Vodanovic (ceramicist, Chile) are the artists who now present the result of this intense work.
In total 36 works, of different formats and styles which, as he comments Paula Bonet, “they have been worked on from the collective, but also from our own obsessions, even from the most private ones, which lead us to this wonderful and terrifying craft that is painting”. Each of them, moreover, is a direct tribute to Roser Bru and his work. For just over a month they will coexist at the Museu d’Art de Girona.
