In a Woman-Centred Perspective

One of the strategic lines of the Museu d’Art de Girona in recent years has been to highlight the role of women in art and history. This commitment is reflected in various initiatives, including a specific itinerary within the permanent collection, educational activities, the dissemination of women artists present in the Museum’s collection, and the programming of exhibitions that incorporate a gender perspective.

With this set of actions, the Museu d’Art de Girona reaffirms its commitment to giving voice and visibility to women in the history of art, offering new perspectives and interpretations that enrich our cultural heritage.

Itinerary “In Terms of Women”

The itinerary “In Terms of Women” is a guided visit to the Museum’s permanent collection that offers a gender-focused reading, highlighting the presence of women in the works and how art has reflected this over time. It has been developed in collaboration with three specialists in research on women in the history of art: Teresa Vinyoles, medieval historian, professor at the University of Barcelona, co-founder of the Duoda Women’s Research Centre and scientific director of the Biographical Dictionary of Women; Sílvia Canalda, art historian specialising in the study of religious imagery in the modern period and professor at the University of Barcelona; and Elina Norandi, art historian specialising in gender perspective and professor at the Llotja School of Art and Design in Barcelona.

The itinerary includes the Romanesque and Gothic rooms, the Renaissance and Baroque, and extends to the 19th and 20th centuries. You can discover a selection through our audiovisual materials, as well as listen to the Audio Guide for “In Terms of Women”.

In addition, we periodically offer guided tours at the Museum in a woman-centred perspective.
