Until June 28: two exhibitions, two women artists at md'A

This week the Girona Art Museum hosts, for the first and last time at the same time, two exhibitions dedicated to two women artists : “Francisca Rius i Sanuy (1891–1967). Design and life “, which closes on June 28, and “Concha Ibáñez. The evocation of the landscape” , which we have just inaugurated.

A brief and unique coincidence to reflect on two very different trajectories, separated by half a century, but united by the same questions: how do you build an artistic career when the entire context works against you?

Francisca Rius i Sanuy studied at the Escola de la Llotja in Barcelona between 1907 and 1914, where she won prizes and recognition every year. The magazine Feminal dedicated a report to her entitled “Una artista de mérit”. Her future seemed set. But the family burden, the Civil War and the subsequent political circumstances abruptly cut short her career. We are left with a meager legacy, carefully preserved by the family, and a diary written during the war as an exceptional document.

Concha Ibáñez studied at the same school, La Llotja, years later. She combined this with her work as a dressmaker and did not present her first exhibition until she was 34. From then on, however, she did not stop: between four and six individual exhibitions per year, in galleries throughout Spain and abroad, living from her work. The landscape, evoked from memory and synthesis, became her territory.

Until June 28th you have the opportunity to see both exhibitions in a single tour of the museum. And if you want to go further, for Saturday the 27th we have scheduled the screen printing workshop for adults Print your design and life bag , inspired by the work of Francisca Rius.

Don’t miss it!
