Today, May 19 , coinciding with World Breast Milk Donation Day , a new room dedicated to breastfeeding is being inaugurated at the headquarters of the Generalitat de Catalunya in Girona. The space is the result of a collaboration project between the Breast Milk Bank of the Banc de Sang i Teixits and the Generalitat de Catalunya , with the aim of promoting work-life balance, maternal and child health and support for motherhood in the workplace.
From the Museu d’Art de Girona, we participate by providing memory and historical context: the building that houses the headquarters of the Generalitat de Catalunya is part of the Old Hospital of Santa Caterina. The Museum manages its heritage spaces , among which we find the Casa de Convalescència, a place where care for mothers and babies, breastfeeding and nannies were an everyday reality. This symbolic dimension enriches the space beyond its practical function.
For the conceptualization and design, the collaboration of the Associació Dona Dóna , a breastfeeding support group from Alt Empordà, was used.
